VA AWWA is a section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), an international nonprofit scientific and educational society dedicated to the improvement of drinking water quality and supply. Founded in 1881, AWWA is the largest organization of water supply professionals in the world. Its more than 50,000 members represent the full spectrum of the drinking water community.
In Virginia, our Board of Trustees, staff members, committees, sponsors, and members strive to achieve the mission and attain the goals set forth in our strategic plan. In support of our vision, mission, and goals, VA AWWA is actively working on many fronts. For example, we:
-
Provide extensive and effective training for drinking water professionals throughout the state,
-
Encourage the professional development of members by providing opportunities for committee service and networking,
-
Aid state water utilities in effectively responding to extreme challenges, such as drought conditions,
-
Promote sound environmental and public health practices through technology transfer programs and support of drinking water research,
-
Promote public health by working to bring safe drinking water to local and international communities in need,
-
Support public awareness and education through our work with high school science fairs, and
-
Recognize outstanding contributions to the drinking water field through our state and national awards programs.
