Sherry L. Williams Leadership Award
 
This award was established in 2016 to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of a VA AWWA Section member that has shown exceptional leadership skills, professional expertise, and dedication to the Section.  Nominees for this award must have achieved special performance in one or more of the following areas: Customer service (internal and/or external), Pursuit of continual improvement, Coaching/Mentoring, Communications, Teamwork/Engagement, Committee contributions, or Other significant accomplishments. Members are invited to submit nominations to the Executive Director by June 30th of each year.  
 
Purpose
To acknowledge the contributions and achievements of a VA AWWA Section member that has shown exceptional leadership skills, professional expertise and dedication to the Section.
 
Nominee Eligibility Requirements
  • Hold an individual membership in AWWA or be employed by a Utility or Service Provider member
  • Has served in a leadership role within the Virginia Section (Chair, Vice-Chair, Subcommittee leader, Board member)
  • Has demonstrated leadership qualities within the section by exhibiting a positive attitude, strong communications skills, and a cooperative and dependable spirit. An individual who leads by example and demonstrates a high degree of personal integrity.
  • Nominations should not be based on longevity but built on outstanding leadership contributions to the Virginia Section.
 
Nomination or Submission Deadline
Any member of the Virginia Section or any employee of an organization/department, may make a nomination for this award. Such nominations shall be made on the Nomination Form and submitted to the Executive Director by June 30th.
 
Nominees for this award must have achieved special performance in one or more of the following areas:
  • Customer service (internal and/or external)
  • Pursuit of continual improvement
  • Coaching/Mentoring
  • Communications
  • Teamwork/Engagement
  • Committee contributions
  • Other significant accomplishments
 
Method of Selecting Award Recipient
All nominations shall be in writing and shall indicate the nominee’s qualifications. The Section Executive Director will forward all nominations to the Board of Trustees for review and evaluation. Only one selection for an award will be made annually, and then only if a qualified recipient exists.
 
Frequency
Annually, if deserved.
 
Presentation of the Award
The Award shall be presented by the Section Chair at the Awards Luncheon during the VA AWWA Annual Meeting (WaterJAM).
