Plenty of changes have taken place in our everyday lives in the past three years. These changes, mainly driven by the public health emergencies from COVID-19, have upended personal and professional routines, disrupted ways of living, created new ways of thinking, and forced society to adapt quicker than ever. Disruptions, adaptations, and changes have taken a toll on organizations and employees, leading to deeper conversations on how to improve working conditions, convey employee investment, and ultimately retain the trained workforce.

 

For many employees, discussing Perceived organizational support (POS), employee perceptions regarding the extent to which their employer “values their contributions and cares about their well-being” (Eisenberger, Huntington, Hutchison, & Sowa, 1986, p. 501) can feel intimidating and often goes undiscussed. Many employers still lack adequate tools to support and care for employees to simply do their jobs well. 

Join this Thoughtful Tuesday discussion with Dr. Jesse Winn to uncover aspects of workplace resilience in a post-COVID world. During this conversation, Dr. Winn will identify barriers to Perceived Organizational Support (POS), promote a safe space to reflect on ways to improve workplace resilience, and offer tools on how to better support your teams and peers.

 

About our presenter

Dr. Winn’s a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in both Virginia and California. He works closely with mental health providers, clergy, local law enforcement, lawyers, and law enforcement liaisons to introduce and train multicultural awareness competencies, and practice within the Lynchburg, Virginia community. He regularly provides consultation and training services (e.g. Lynchburg Diversity Center and Virginia Legal Aid Society). Dr. Winn is passionate about teaching the ‘Art of Listening’ and giving organizations and providers the tools needed to collaborate effectively. Dr. Winn specializes in group facilitation, organizational training and problem solving.

The VA AWWA Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Committee launches “Thoughtful Tuesdays” – our monthly virtual event with guest speakers, facilitated discussions, case studies, podcast and Ted Talk reviews, stories, and inclusion/best practice shares for the VA AWWA community that allows us to increase awareness and education, engage our membership and have courageous conversations on DEI topics.
