The Department of Utilities/Public works is seeking an environmental science professional with leadership experience and a passion for producing quality data. Under limited supervision of the Laboratory Services Division Director, performs administrative and supervisory work in support of the County's Utilities and Public Works Department. The employee serves as the Laboratory's Quality Assurance Officer. Work includes but is not limited to performing tasks in support of the department's Environmental Compliance Program, maintaining the Laboratory's Quality System, conducting and supervising chemical and bacteriological tests of drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, environmental and solid waste samples, establishing laboratory procedures, supervision of professional, technical and skilled employees, and ensuring adherence to established quality assurance standards. The employee must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in setting up laboratory tests and analyzing test results. This position is essential. Personnel occupying this position may be scheduled to work irrespective of weather conditions and/or when general county offices are closed.

ACSA is in search of a full-time Plant Supervisor. The Plant Supervisor shall perform the following duties: supervise Plant Operators; coordinate biosolids handling; complete monthly sludge report; ensure compliance of safety rules; provide and update Standard Operations Procedures and Conditions for each treatment plant; establish controls to ensure all plant and lift stations are operating properly; ensure adequate minor repair on mechanical, electrical, and control equipment; ensure operations staff is trained on SCADA operations and equipment changes; assure subordinate(s) perform Water/Wastewater plant chemical and physical tests correctly; support and train operations staff to comply with standard operating procedures and conditions; coordinate training of new personnel; conduct plant tours; ensure accurate and timely records and reports are produced and filed; and train Senior Operators to interface with Department of Environmental Quality inspectors.

The City of Virginia Beach is looking for a Utility Operations Supervisor to lead and manage it’s five field bureaus. Bureaus include Water Distribution, Meter Operations, Electrical Support, Sewer Collection, and Sewer Pump Stations. This position will be responsible for the overall management, administration, and direction of the maintenance and repair functions for the City’s water and sanitary sewer facilities and equipment. The selected leader to fill this role should have a strong background in process improvement, supervisory experience, and Utility Field experience.

Interprets state and federal regulations and their application to plant operations. Monitors activities for safety, quality, and efficiency.

The Prince George County Utility Department is currently seeking qualified candidates for the position of Waterworks Operator. This position will be responsible for performing operations, maintenance and repairs on water production facilities, equipment, and related appurtenances. This position reports to the Utility Operations Manager. This is moderate manual work requiring intermittent lifting of objects weighing at least 30 pounds or more. Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm's length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils. The worker may be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment. This position may involve call-out for after-hours work activities.
