Virginia Beach Public Utilities Technical Services is seeking a critically thinking and self-learning individual to assist with upcoming technology-related departmental projects while maintaining existing systems. This individual will work as a member of the Public Utilities Operations Technical Services team.

Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide day-to-day support and management for Infor Public Sector/Hansen (asset management and work order management software)
  • Assist with the implementation of Service-Link (mobile dispatching software)
  • Serve as power-user for access control systems (CyberAudit, Lenel) and mobile device management software (MDM)
  • Assist with maintenance and inventory of technology assets (hardware and software)
  • Custom report development using MS SQL Server Management Studio, Crystal Reports, Report Builder and Power BI
  • Develop and document business procedures for use with division’s applications
  • Develop training materials and conduct end-user training
  • Assist with data entry functions and routine report generation
  • Analyze business operations; identify business needs and business process improvements
  • Liaison with IT Department and/or vendor to resolve software or hardware issues
  • Other tasks/duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements:

MINIMUMS: Any combination of education (above high school), training, and/or experience equivalent to six (6) years in a field related to functional support for automated business operations in a network or server-based environment for the agency where the IT services are being used, utilizing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. (NOTE: Related college disciplines include Business Administration, Public Administration, Information Systems, and Information Technology.) May be required to have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina drivers license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV drivers license eligibility requirements. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

o Business Knowledge
o Experience with asset management and work order management applications or similar software
o Working knowledge of relational databases, such as: MS SQL Server, Access, etc.
o Experience serving as system admin, power user, or similar role
o Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office products or similar programs
o Communication Skills
o Experience in providing technical briefings, training sessions and training documents
o Ability to effectively communicate with users of varied levels of technological competency
o Ability to provide quality customer service to internal and external customers

o Detail oriented with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
o Ability to prioritize tasks and maximize efficiency
o Ability to work with minimal supervision
