The Engineer Senior position is a full-time position with benefits and a full salary range of $61,422 - $103,292 annually (preferred hiring range of $61,422 - $70,636 annually). The ideal candidate for this position will develop guideline documents and oversee the successful completion of recommendations for managing water and sewer systems and assets. Applicants who do not meet the qualifications for the Engineer Senior level may be considered for other levels within the department at an annual rate commensurate with applicant qualifications.

Engineering Trainee: $48,651 - $81,785
Engineer: $57,948 - $97,385
Engineer Senior: $61,422 - $103,292
 
The Engineer Senior:
  • Manages inventory of assets through interface with GIS;
  • Develops and monitors level of service (LOS) requirements for asset types;
  • Collects and interprets data for risk analysis of infrastructure assets in the City systems (LOF, COF);
  • Uses CMMS and interface methodology to plan and monitor predictive maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, and replacement of infrastructure assets;
  • Prepares a variety of technical reports and gives presentations of reports;
  • Plans, organizes, and directs the design and construction of capital improvements;
  • Coordinates work with other agencies and departments;
  • Works with teammates in the preparation of design criteria, designs, analysis, specifications, plans, inspections, cost estimates, tabulations of contract bids, contract payments, and related matters;
  • Administers design and construction contracts;
  • Oversees the review and approval of subdivision and site work by private parties;
  • Monitors water and sewer system for performance benchmarking;
  • Assists the public sector in technical assistance.
Physical Requirements:
This is light work requiring the exertion of 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and feeling; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Requirements:
•    Undergraduate degree with coursework in civil engineering, environmental science, or a related field and considerable experience in professional civil engineering work with some supervisory experience preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•    Valid driver's license.
•    Valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of the theory, principles, and practices of civil engineering as applied to water and sewer systems and have the ability to:
•    Apply asset management principles for risk management decisions;
•    Apply project management principles to capital projects per PMI standards;
•    Apply hydraulic principles to water and sewer system applications;
•    Establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, contractors and the general public through the use of effective communication.
