Chesterfield County’s Utilities Department is seeking a Plant Manager to plan, direct and coordinate the operations and maintenance of two county wastewater treatment plants, a wastewater laboratory, a wastewater pumping station, and sludge handling and disposal programs to ensure and maintain compliance with federal and state NPDES effluent permit requirements. Develop public relations and informational programs; resolve customer complaints; establish, implement and support training programs to achieve operator certification; develop annual operating budget; advise and assist in the development, design and installation of physical facilities; develop and maintain Environmental Management Systems (EMS); conduct plant tours. Perform other work as required.  Successful candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering or related field and six years of experience in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant including three years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Possession of a valid Class I Wastewater Operator's Certificate issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia. Considerable knowledge of federal effluent permit requirements (NPDES); of supervisory principles and practices; of the principle practices of wastewater treatment; planning laboratory testing strategies; of the latest advances in wastewater treatment.  
 
Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview.
