Primary functions include: The successful candidate will perform skilled work in the maintenance and repair of specialized machinery and equipment in a water or wastewater treatment plant and related facilities; troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, motor control systems and motor starters; use the appropriate electrical equipment to diagnose issues with VFD’s, motors, and related equipment; inspect, repair, and overhaul electromechanical and solid state electrical equipment using a variety of electrical test equipment, meters, powered and non-powered tools and equipment; repair and replace electrical wiring, controls, lighting systems and fuses; install electrical apparatus, fixtures, and equipment for alarms and other systems; perform circuit breaker repair and maintenance; install safety and distribution components (i.e. switches, emergency shut offs, resistors, circuit breaker panels, lockout tag out stations); perform repairs on pump motors and related equipment; use hand, bench and machine tools in the repair and maintenance of equipment; operate heavy equipment in the performance of assigned tasks; and perform other duties as assigned.

 

Skills & Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electrical and mechanical trades; general knowledge of the occupational hazards connected with general maintenance operations and ability to take and enforce appropriate safety precautions; ability to work from sketches, blue prints, wiring schematics, and equipment manuals and to understand and carry out oral and written instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates; skill in the use and care of bench and hand tools, machines and equipment.

 

Education & Experience: Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in water and/or wastewater treatment plant maintenance work. Possession of a CDL valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required.
