As a Process Control Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for overseeing the Process Control and Communication systems for the water treatment plant’s information systems infrastructure, the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, telephones, cell phones and other mobile devices, pagers, radios, fiber connectivity, and more!  This position is located within the Waterworks Department.
 
Day to day, you will be installing, configuring, programming, performing maintenance, and troubleshooting the technology within the water treatment plants. Knowledge of Active Directory domain controls, Structured Query Language (SQL), and Virtual Memory System (VMS) servers, workstation and desktop computers will be essential for this position.  You will also oversee the waterworks communication systems, which will include planning, designing, contracting, implementing, and installing major voice communication projects and infrastructure.
 
Strategic continuous improvement is important to the City and the department, so you will need to serve as a liaison with software vendors, consultants, engineers, instrumentation personnel, customers and City employees to update and improve any issues the process control system may experience. This position does have the responsibility of the administration and supervision of the Waterworks Process Control and Communications branch, which would include budget preparation, purchasing and financial transactions, payroll approval, performance management, employee relations, and delegating and assigning work to employees. Communication is key in this position, as there are many moving parts and stakeholders involved in the daily operations.
 
How much money can I make?
At the senior level, the Process Controls Systems Specialist will make a competitive salary ranging from $56k to $96k annually depending on your education, qualifications, and work experience.
 
What will I learn on the job?
Your knowledge and skills of water treatment information systems, technology infrastructure, and instrumentation will continuously develop while working in this position! You will also gain knowledge of different processes and policies as you supervise and lead your team. 
 
What are the qualifications for this position?
This position requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer or Information Science, Computer Network Engineering, or a related field with 5-7 years of related experience.  Related experience should include industrial controls including Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and Local/Wide Area Networks (LAN/WAN).
 
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record will be required. Due to the nature of this position, satisfactory results from an audio exam will also be required.
