Roanoke Stormwater Utility
Stormwater Engineer / Civil Engineer I
Position: Stormwater Engineer/Civil Engineer I
Department: Stormwater Utility
Salary: $50,057.28 - $80,092.22 DOQ

For too long, cities have treated rainwater as a waste. Stormwater has been viewed as something to be ‘managed’ while urban development and streets have prevented stormwater from doing exactly what we most need it to do: get back into the ground. As a City known for its outdoor activities and amenities, Roanoke understands the need to protect the health of the Roanoke River and its 13 tributaries while alleviating localized drainage concerns.

To that end, in 2014 the City of Roanoke created a Stormwater Utility to focus upon a $140M backlog of capital stormwater construction projects, an estimated $125M of TMDL related water quality projects, and maintenance of the City’s stormwater infrastructure assets including approximately 9500 inlets, 400 linear miles of pipe, 750 outfalls, and 32 City owned BMPs. This Stormwater Engineer position will be an integral part of our Utility’s annual stormwater capital improvement program while working as a part of the Stormwater Utility team to fulfill our mission to: Transform the Roanoke River into a community asset, focal point, and source of pride for those that live, work, learn, and play in its watershed.
