Fairfax Water has an immediate opening for a Survey Technician II/III.  This position will perform skilled land survey and utility locating work.
 
Essential functions include:
  • Performing detailed topographical surveys and surveys of physical features using robotic total station, data collector, and/or GPS equipment.
  • Process collected survey data using AutoCAD and supporting software for use by Engineers and Engineering Technicians.
  • Researching land records for property boundaries, rights-of-way, and easements and as-builts for the location of existing utilities.
  • Locating existing water mains, appurtenances, and other underground utilities using various utility locating equipment.
  • Measuring invert elevations of storm and sanitary sewers.
  • Establishing vertical and horizontal control for proposed construction and performing construction stakeout.
  • Drafting as-builts of completed water main projects.
Requirements:
 
Graduation from high school or equivalent and a minimum of five years progressively responsible survey-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience and knowledge.  Certified Survey Technician is preferred. Candidates should have a strong knowledge of the principles and practices of survey field and office work, including topographic surveying. Candidates should also have strong knowledge of and the ability to operate surveying instruments and equipment including robotic total station, data collector and GPS equipment. Candidates must also have the ability to process collected survey data using AutoCAD and supporting software
