Chesterfield County’s Utilities Department is seeking a Utility Supervisor to assist the Assistant Water Operations Manager in coordinating the maintenance of water distribution system waterlines, hydrants, valves, and other associated appurtenances.

Manages, plans and coordinates activities associated with the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system; determines action to be taken in event of emergencies; instructs subordinates in repair, operation and maintenance procedures; collects data; prepares and interprets reports and maintains records; assists in training, recruiting, disciplining, promoting and evaluating employees; assist in budget preparation. Position is on-call to respond to emergencies during non-working hours. Perform other work as required. Successful candidate will possess a high school diploma or GED; four years of experience in utility maintenance or construction with a minimum of two years in a supervisory role; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Associate's degree in engineering or a closely related field preferred. Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices involved in the operation, maintenance and construction of water distribution systems and all associated appurtenances; ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications; ability to provide new ideas in materials, equipment and approaches to operation and maintenance of water facilities; knowledge of plumbing principles and practices; and considerable skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with supervisors, subordinates and the general public. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class "A" required within one year of employment. Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Good driving record required. Based on the Virginia DMV point system, record must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months. Out of state driving records must be obtained by the applicant and presented at time of interview. Record must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within 30 days of interview date.
