The Rivanna Water & Sewer Authority Provides drinking water to the City of Charlottesville, VA and Albemarle County, VA. We are currently looking for a Water Department Manager. The Water Department Manager plans, direct and supervises all of the activities of the Water Department which includes five conventional surface water treatment plants and one groundwater treatment plant with some employees working 24 hour shifts.
The duties include overseeing and evaluating water treatment practices and procedures to ensure optimized plant operations, working with finance and engineering staff to develop annual operations and capital budgets, working with the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality and the Virginia Department of Health on inspections and other regulatory matters, and overseeing and directing all water department staff. A degree from an accredited four-year college in a science related field, at least 5 years of increasingly responsible experience in directing and operating water treatment facilities, and at least 5 years in increasing supervisory responsibility are required. You must have comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practices of water treatment plant operation, surface water treatment, water engineering and current water treatment standards to be considered for this position. A Virginia Class 1 Water Operator’s license or the ability to obtain this license within one year from the date of hire is required.
