Water Plant Chief Operator

The Town of Lawrenceville, in Brunswick County, VA is seeking a self-motivated, detail-oriented public utility professional to serve the town as the Water Plant Chief Operator. This position performs a variety of skilled, technical, supervisory, and administrative work in the planning, construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of municipal water treatment and distribution systems within the town and adjacent service areas located in the county. 

The Water Plant Chief Operator works under the general supervision of the Public Works Director and exercises close supervision over assigned water treatment plant operators, maintenance workers, and equipment operations. The successful candidate must possess the ability to work independently, while also communicating effectively and promoting teamwork within the organization. 

Certification as a Virginia Class II Water Plant Operator is required. Preferred qualifications include experience in environmental science, public health, civil engineering, public administration, or a closely related field; as well as five years of responsible work experience relating to the construction, operation, repair, and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems. A strong work ethic and problem-solving analytical skills are highly valued.
