Under limited supervision, this position is responsible for responding to situations after normal work hours to include weekends and holidays for the Department of Waterworks. Reports to a Water Distribution Superintendent.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provides after hours customer service support such as placing meters, turning water off or on, and checking leaks at houseline connections. Responds to and investigates emergency calls related to Public Utilities’ infrastructure such as pipeline, service line, meter or hydrant leaks; reports findings to dispatch with resolution recommendation. Performs infrastructure field locates to comply with the Underground Utility Damage Prevention Act.
 
Performs administrative work to include work sheets, inspection reports, time sheets, inventory reports, logs, and other related documentation.
 
Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE
  • Infrastructure Maintenance –Thorough knowledge of the methods, tools, and equipment used in the inspection, installation, and repair of water pipelines to include procedures for diagnosing malfunctions as well as the operation and maintenance of assigned vehicles or equipment.
  • Safety - Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safety regulations related to the operation and repair of vehicles and equipment.
REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Computer Skills – Utilizes a personal computer with ArcView, word processing, and related software to effectively complete a variety of administrative tasks with reasonable speed and accuracy.
  • Interpersonal Relationships/Customer Service – Develops and maintains cooperative and professional relationships with employees and all levels of management to include representatives from other departments and organizations.
  • Time Management - Ability to plan and organize daily work routine. Establishes priorities for the completion of work in accordance with sound time-management methodology.
REQUIRED ABILITIES
  • Communication – Ability to communicate ideas and proposals verbally and in writing effectively so others will understand, to include the preparation of detailed reports which include numerical information. Ability to listen and understand information and ideas being presented verbally and in writing.
  • Critical Thinking – Ability to analyze and interpret information and data to ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Mathematics – Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations..
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Requires a high school diploma and 3-5 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
 
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
An acceptable general background check to include a local and state criminal history check and a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Tasks require the ability to exert moderate, though not constant physical effort.
  • Some combination of climbing and balancing to include climbing ladders, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (10-20 pounds).
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
  • Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odors, depths, textures, and visual cues or signals.
  • Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
