Legislative Updates

It is that time of year again! The legislative session is underway, and there are bills that you need to be aware of. Keep an eye out for our weekly Legislative Report emails or go straight to the website and review the bills listed.

Emergency Preparedness and Security Committee

The VA AWWA/VWEA WARN Committee was recently rebranded to become the Emergency Preparedness and Security Committee (EPSC)! Three (3) Focus Areas under the EPSC umbrella are WARN, Emergency Preparedness, and Security. EPSC’s goal is to communicate routinely to VA AWWA and VWEA members through newsletters, workshops, seminars, etc., about utility resiliency topics. They are having a kick-off meeting TOMORROW, Thursday, January 19^th, from 12- 1 pm.

DPOR Examination Survey - Reopened

Attention Virginia Waterworks Operators: You have an opportunity to contribute to the WPI (formerly ABC) examination content areas!

In order to ensure WPI standardized examinations remain current and relevant for the industry, the Certification Commission for Environmental Professionals (C2EP) and Water Professionals International (WPI) are conducting job analyses in both the Water Treatment and Water Distribution disciplines. Responses to these surveys will be used to build updated operator certification exams, Need-to-Know Criteria, and other important operator certification resources used globally.

In an attempt to gain wide industry representation in the survey responses, the Virginia Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals asks you to please complete the Job Analysis Surveys and feel free to share with other operators, utilities, and stakeholders. This is your opportunity to ensure that the technologies, processes, and critical operator duties utilized in your systems are represented on WPI’s standardized exams.

There are several incentive opportunities for professionals that complete a survey; full details can be found on WPI’s website.

Annual Good Lab Practices - Call for Abstracts

Save the date for the Annual VWEA/VA AWWA Good Lab Practices Conference. Day one of the event includes workshops and an evening networking reception in the exhibit hall. Day two includes a morning general session and afternoon breakout sessions.

Plant of the Future: What Will Drive Future Changes

This year's seminar will be held on April 19th, 2023, at the University of Richmond, Jepson Alumni Center. A full day of relevant and future-facing presentations covering a wide range of current and emerging topics, regulations, and innovations in the water treatment industry. 5.5 hours of CPE are anticipated.
