Cybersecurity Overview and Tabletop Exercise for Virginia Drinking Water Utilities
EPA’s Water Infrastructure and Cyber Resilience Division is offering a free Cybersecurity Overview and Tabletop Exercise for Drinking Water Utilities in Virginia. This training will share cybersecurity best practices and free resources to build and maintain strong cybersecurity programs at water utilities.

The Cybersecurity Overview will cover:
• EPA resources available to help water and wastewater utilities improve cybersecurity resilience.
• Common cybersecurity threats against the water sector.
• Basic cyber hygiene practices.
• CISA cybersecurity resources.
• FBI cybersecurity brief.
 
This online training will take place Wednesday, January 31st, from 9:00 am to noon ET.

VA AWWA Science Fair Judges Needed
VA AWWA and VWEA are currently looking for a few great volunteers to serve as judges for the Science Fair awards at regional and state science fairs across Virginia. These events are held to foster mentoring and networking, and it's a great opportunity for you to get involved in your local community. Whether you are a young or seasoned professional, you're welcome to give back in this easy and fun way. Most science fairs take place between March 2-16, except for the Virginia State Fair, which will be held in early April.

Lead and Copper Rule Revisions - Online Portal Training

All regulated community and nontransient noncommunity (NTNC) waterworks are required to submit an inventory of lead service lines to the VDH Office of Drinking Water no later than October 16, 2024. ODW contracted with a software development company, GEC, to develop an online portal for waterworks to obtain the templates and upload inventories to meet the requirements.   All waterworks must use this online portal for submitting their service line inventory.

Please join us for one of the following training sessions to learn how to use the online portal.

  • Thursday, February 8, 2024,  from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM – Community Waterworks (plus NTNCs with 5 or more connections) and technical assistance providers that will be assisting community waterworks with submittal of their inventories.  Please use the following link to register for the training:   Community Registration Link
  • Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM – Non-Transient Noncommunity (NTNC) Waterworks and technical assistance providers will be assisting them with the submittal of their inventories.  Please use the following link to register for the training:    NTNC Registration Link 

Note: If your NTNC waterworks has more than five service connections, you should use the Community Waterworks template and attend the training for Community Waterworks on Thursday, February 8, 2024.

Deadline is Approaching Fast - Annual Good Lab Practices - Call for Abstracts

The Laboratory Practice Committee hereby invites the submission of abstracts and workshops for the 30th Annual Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Conference, to be held in Harrisonburg, Virginia on July 29th and July 30th, 2024 at the Hotel Madison & Shenandoah Valley Conference Center. 

 

This conference is designed to provide the latest information on major issues such as analytical method updates and development, laboratory accreditation, regulatory updates, particularly those impacting laboratory staff and utilities, and emerging technologies and analytical instrumentation. This is a great opportunity to present new information related to water and wastewater issues. Workshops will be held on July 29th, and the technical presentations will be given on July 30th.

 

The deadline for Presentations and Workshops is February 15, 2024. Water Matters! Fly In
It is time for Virginia to register their delegates for the AWWA Water Matters! Fly-in to take place on April 9-10.  This annual event allows members to meet with their legislative representatives to discuss water issues and concerns and inform them of the importance of water and water-related funding on the federal level.  We invite you to participate in these congressional meetings to ensure your voice is heard.  
 
If you have never participated in a Fly-In before, no worries - you will be provided with resources to guide the conversation by AWWA's Government Affairs office staff.  This is a GREAT opportunity for Young Professionals who would like to get more involved in the legislative process and make an impact on the water industry.
