Do you know someone who has contributed to the water industry and the Virginia Section in a substantial way? What about a company that supports its employees' growth by involvement in the Virginia Section? Why not nominate them for one of the following VA AWWA awards. The deadline to submit nominations is June 30th. Details about each award are online (https://vaawwa.org/page/awards)
Members are the lifeblood of AWWA. It is the involvement and commitment of water industry members that make AWWA work at both the Section and Association levels. The future of AWWA depends on attracting and encouraging young professionals (YPs) to become actively involved in the association and fulfilling our vision of creating a better world through better water. YPs are interested in a meaningful career while making a difference in how the world uses, protects, and preserves this most vital resource.
Drinking water utilities are asked to participate in a survey that is collecting data for consumer complaints at water utilities during COVID-19. As many have heard or read, COVID-19 infections are associated with sensory loss of smell (and flavor), and also a condition called parosmia. People who experience a loss of taste or smell from COVID-19 may experience, about 3 months later, a horrible disruption of their sense of smell, which is called parosmia. For example, drinking coffee or water may trigger a memory of the smell of gasoline or feces. It is an interesting issue that scientists want to understand better and ultimately resolve, and for which information from water companies may provide insight. This request was published in the April 2021 Journal AWWA Industry News (page 88). If you are interested in participating in the survey, please click here to learn more.
Present your professional work and research to leading professionals in the water and environmental industries at the annual WaterJAM conference! Create a poster that showcases your innovative projects, research, and interests in the drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and environmental fields. Young professionals and students are encouraged to participate!
The top poster in the drinking water category will win $1,000 and be invited to present at the 2022 AWWA Annual Conference and Exposition in San Antonio, Texas. The top poster in the wastewater/stormwater/environmental category will win $1,000 and be recognized at the 2021 Water Environment Federation’s Exhibition and Conference.
So, you have heard about the great benefits of WaterJAM (both virtual and in-person versions!), and you are interested in attending this year! Your next step may be to justify the value of your attendance to your manager/boss/supervisor. Sound overwhelming? Well, we hope that the advice below will help you develop your plan and will result in your attendance at WaterJAM 2021 in Virginia Beach!
