WaterJAM Reviewers Needed

Would you like to help shape WaterJAM? The WaterJAM Committee is in urgent need of additional abstract reviews for this year’s WaterJAM.

The following list contains the categories of Abstract Submission Sessions. The bolded sessions are needing some attention/reviews. If you have time and expertise in any of these areas, we would greatly appreciate your help!

Science Fair Judges Needed

Not all “judging” is bad… especially when it benefits students and their science projects! VA AWWA needs Science Fair judges for regional and state science fairs to award our VA AWWA special award. And with science fairs all around the state, there is bound to be one in your area.

Take a look at the list of Science Fairs on our website and let us know if you can help! It will be a rewarding experience for both the students and YOU!

Women Impacting Water Breakfast 2020

Calling all women (or women supporters) who want to feel empowered in the water industry! This year, at WaterJAM, a special women’s breakfast will be held on Tuesday morning before the keynote session. This breakfast is about connecting women and celebrating their impact in the water industry. When registering for WaterJAM, make sure to check “Yes, I will attend!” to secure your spot – and then make sure to pass the word along to anyone who may be interested in attending with you.

Fred Angel Exceptional Service Scholarship

Happy New Year! What New Year Resolutions Have You Made? Is one of them to improve your Customer Service Skills? Why not complete an application for the Fred Angel Exceptional Service Scholarship Award?

One person will be awarded free hotel accommodations and free registration to the 2020 Virginia AWWA Customer Service Workshop! Our 2020 Workshop theme---People, Purpose, and Passion: Pathways to Customer Success promises to be a dynamic, fun-filled and transformative learning experience.

The application deadline is May 15, 2020. The winner will be notified via email by June 5th!

VA AWWA Scholarships

VA AWWA Scholarships for 2020 have been posted!

There are 5 scholarships being offered this year.

One AWWA Operator’s Scholarship

Two awards of $1,000 are being offered to Virginia operators for professional development.

Ray A. Jackson Undergraduate Scholarship

One award of $2,000 will help a student pursuing an undergraduate degree at a Virginia college.

VA AWWA Graduate Scholarship

Two awards of $2,500 will help graduate students pursuing a degree at a Virginia college.

Applications for the Operator’s Scholarships are due May 15, 2020, and Undergraduate and Graduate Scholarship Applications are due May 29, 2020.

Calling all Water Plant Operators

2019 was a very successful year for the Plant Operations Committee! The Plant Operations Conference was held at the Virginia Beach oceanfront in May and the Fall Plant Operations Seminar was hosted by the City of Lynchburg in October – these are great ways to earn CPE’s and kick off the summer and fall seasons!

More exciting training opportunities are coming in 2020. The Plant Operations Conference will be held at the Wyndham Hotel in Virginia Beach on May 6-8. Keep an eye out for advertisements in late Winter.

AWWA members from the water, maintenance, operations, engineering, and laboratory communities are welcome to join the committee.
