Cybersecurity Overview and Cybersecurity Incident Response Plan Workshop
Monday, September 9, 2024 | 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM
Presented by the VA AWWA | VWEA Emergency Preparedness and
Security Committee
Cost:  $70

This interactive workshop will provide attendees with important cybersecurity information, including resources for cybersecurity assessments, technical assistance, planning, training, response, and funding.

Upon arrival for this workshop, attendees will be given a simple eight-question self-assessment that includes the Top Cyber Actions for Security Water Systems published by CISA, EPA, and FBI.

During the breakout portion of the workshop, attendees will be grouped based on their cyber maturity and/or awareness derived from the results of their self-assessment.

US EPA has developed new Cybersecurity Incident Response templates for each stage of cyber maturity. Attendees will be paired with facilitators to stimulate the development of an Incident Response Plan using the template that matches their self-assessed cyber maturity level. A hotwash session will conclude the workshop, where attendees will have the opportunity to share lessons learned and discuss a path forward through a Q&A across cybersecurity maturity/awareness levels.

Hot Virginia Water/Wastewater Utility Regulatory Issues
Presented by Chris Pomeroy, President of AquaLaw

An Inside Perspective on National Water Policy Issues and Workforce Retention
Presented by Erica Brown of Fairfax Water

After two decades of advocacy and utility management work at the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies, Erica Brown recently transitioned to the role of Director of Administration at Fairfax Water. In this talk, she will discuss key national water policy issues that keep water association/advocacy staff busy -- specifically recent regulations and cybersecurity. She will also share insights from her new perspective inside the utility -  focusing on the critical workforce issue of attracting and retaining a diverse and robust workforce. She will highlight the questions utility managers should ask themselves and their leadership team to address this critical concern.

WaterJam Silent Auction and Reception
The Water Reach Joint Committee of the Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association (VA AWWA) and the Virginia Water Environment Association (VWEA) is holding our Annual Silent Auction and Reception on Tuesday, September 10th, as part of WaterJAM.

Water Reach’s key initiative is to bring safe drinking water and proper sanitation to people who are without these basic necessities in our home state of Virginia.  This auction is our main fundraiser to support the activities of our Committee. Our primary efforts include using the technical resources of our committee members to resolve community and individual water and wastewater infrastructure needs. By leveraging our knowledge, we are able to gain funding for water and wastewater projects and provide assistance for projects in communities lacking the capacity to obtain adequate infrastructure.

We are asking for your participation in our Water Reach Silent Auction. We are requesting donations from businesses such as artwork, gift cards and certificates, services and/or products. If you’re an artist or a craftsperson, please consider donating some of your work to the Water Reach Silent Auction.

All monies raised during the auction will be used to fund water and sanitary projects in disadvantaged communities in Virginia.

Don't hesitate to get in touch with Greg Prelewicz at gprelewicz@fairfaxwater.org or Caitlin DeYoung at cdeyoung@rkk.com if you have any questions or want to donate.

We are grateful in advance for your consideration and support of this valuable program!
