Manganese occurs naturally in the environment and is often found in groundwater and surface water in Virginia. At water treatment facilities, the primary focus is reducing manganese concentrations below the recommended limit for aesthetic control. However, recent research has sparked interest on the potential impact of manganese on corrosion control in distribution systems, which could lead to changes in manganese regulations.

In January of 2021, the VOSH Emergency Temporary Standard on COVID-19 expired, paving the way for the new Final Standard for Infectious Disease Prevention of COVID-19 16VAC25-220. VRSA Senior Safety Consultants Eddie Shelton and Vinny Gallo (both former VOSH inspectors) will cover the requirements of this permanent standard in a simplified manner. Join us in our discussion aimed at helping you understand and apply what compliance requires, making good faith efforts, and responding to VOSH inquiries. Having a firm grasp of the concepts and application of this standard will not only help protect you and your employees but can help prevent the spread of this virus to your families.

Ever wondered how your utility can use social media to share messages and interact with your customers? Join us for a webinar hosted by the VA AWWA Water Awareness and Outreach Committee. Loudoun Water will share a case study of how they have successfully used social media to communicate with customers about a project. The webinar will also share information on how to gather data to discover the real impact and power of what you are posting on social media. Join us and discover how your utility can make a positive impact on your customers using social media!

Course participants will learn how to complete a system-wide self-assessment of five core areas of everyday operations. Based on the assessment, participants identify a priority area of improvement that may be eligible for USDA funding, learn how to develop a short project plan, and then learn how to contact/connect with USDA to get the funding process started. All participants receive dedicated, follow-up technical assistance and helpful documents from AWWA.

Southeast Rural Community Assistance Program (SERCAP) along with its partner the Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association (VA AWWA) invites representatives of Small Community Water Systems (fewer than 10,000 persons served), to a FREE online workshop on Compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act.

Participants will learn how to recognize cybersecurity threats, how to complete the self-assessment questionnaire, and utilize the AWWA cybersecurity controls for small systems. Based on the cybersecurity self-assessment and cybersecurity controls for small utilities, participants learn how to identify at-risk areas and how to apply that with USDA to get the funding started. All participants receive dedicated, follow-up technical assistance and helpful documents from AWWA.  

Join us for two sessions of training specifically designed for Distribution Operators and Supervisors. These sessions will provide valuable insight on topics that deal with day to day operations of a water distribution system.

Workshop participants will learn how to assess revenue requirements, identify the community’s financial priorities, and build rates that fit their situation and objectives. All participants receive dedicated, follow-up technical assistance and helpful documents from AWWA.
