Sustainability Focus Tour at UOSA - Water is fundamental to public health, environmental protection, and community vitality, and few experiences demonstrate stewardship of this critical resource more effectively than a tour of UOSA’s treatment facility.

The tour will begin with lunch and a brief presentation to provide context before heading into the field.

What you’ll explore:

  • Water Reuse – Learn how UOSA’s effluent supports indirect reuse
  • Final Effluent Reservoir – Visit the Final Effluent Reservoir, a valued recreational amenity for both employees and the public that supports activities such as fishing, picnicking, dog walking, and exercise
  • Habitat & Conservation Efforts – See UOSA’s efforts to create a refuge for birds and native plant species
  • Energy Sustainability – Learn about UOSA’s combined heat and power system, including an 848 kW Jenbacher engine fueled by cleaned digester gas that supplies approximately 20% of the facility’s electrical demand
  • Process Level Sustainability – Explore how on-site–generated carbon dioxide is reused in the first and second stage recarbonation basins to lower pH, optimizing treatment performance while reducing emissions
